Nazifa Jalali: "I have not called for a ban on cricket; my name has been used in opposition to cricket without my permission!"
Afghan women's rights activist Nazifa Jalali shared a list on her X account today, Friday, January 17th, which showed that some women had again called on the British Parliament to ban Afghanistan's national cricket team. Jalali stated that her name and those of her family members were included in the list without permission. "I have no knowledge about this matter, but my mother's name, mine, and that of another friend have been added to this list without consent," she said.
This comes as dozens of Afghan women and youth held a protest yesterday in front of the British Parliament in support of Afghan cricket and girls' education, urging the British Parliament to separate politics from sports. "The Afghan national cricket team should not be punished for the actions of the Taliban," they said.
Meanwhile, women opposing cricket had prepared the list, which reportedly included several names added without coordination.
Nazifa Jalali called on these women not to misuse her name or those of her family members in the future.
