Recent Developments in Afghanistan’s Judiciary: Complete Elimination of Female Judges

March 10, the International Day of Women Judges, serves as a reminder of the vital role women played in Afghanistan’s judicial system. According to official statistics, before the collapse of the Republic, 300 female judges were active in the country’s courts.

According to some former officials of the Attorney General’s Office, during the previous government, the Attorney General’s Office had more than 7,105 employees, of whom over 24 percent were women, including prosecutors. However, at present, no women are present in the Attorney General’s Office.
