"A father in Nangarhar killed his daughter for refusing a forced marriage
In Nangarhar province, a man in the Surkh-Rod district killed his 16-year-old daughter because she refused to marry an elderly man. Local sources confirmed that the incident took place on Saturday, March 11, in the village of Khairabad.
The man had arranged his daughter’s marriage to an old man from Khost for 500,000 Afghanis and fled the scene after committing the murder. The girl was also a Quran reciter. Local Taliban authorities have not yet commented on the matter.
It is worth noting that poverty, economic problems, old traditions, forced marriages, and restrictions imposed on girls’ education and schooling are the main factors behind such incidents. The need for urgent action to improve the human rights situation and support the rights of women and girls in Afghanistan is felt more than ever."
